Tyres Installation Terms
Costco will only fit tyres purchased by Warehouse Members. A Costco Member must be present before installation will commence.
GENERAL NOTICE
The final decision to install a tyre on a vehicle will be made by the Costco tyre centre manager or supervisor. The tyre must meet all vehicle manufacturers’ safety standards and specifications. Costco cannot be held responsible for tyres that do not arrive at the chosen warehouse on the selected date. Selected dates cannot be guaranteed. Tyre bay managers will accommodate where possible all online selected dates and times.
NEW TO REAR INSTALLATION
When less than a full set of 4 tyres are being replaced, Costco’s policy is to fit the new tyres on the rear of the vehicle. Safe vehicle operation is the driving force behind this policy. Full policy below.
NON-INSTALLED TYRES
All tyres purchased on Costco.co.uk are purchased with installation. All tyres purchased on Costco.co.uk must be installed to a tyre rim. For bulk or non-installed tyres, please contact your local tyre centre for assistance.
STANDARD TYRE INSTALLATION
Costco will only install tyres authorised for a specific vehicle. If you are unsure if your purchase is an authorised fitment, please contact your local tyre centre for assistance.
Costco will not perform services on tyres purchased by non-members. A Costco Member must be present before installation will commence.
WINTER TYRE INSTALLATION
Whether your vehicle is Front Wheel Drive, Rear Wheel Drive, Four Wheel Drive, or All Wheel Drive, winter tyres will only be installed in sets of four. Dual Wheel Drive Vehicles winter tyres will only be installed in sets of four on the rear of a dual wheel vehicle or a complete set of six tyres.
If a vehicle already has winter tyres installed and only needs two tyres replacing, our policy would be to install two new winter tyres to the rear of the vehicle (as per our new to rear policy), keeping to the winter policy of all four tyres being winter, or replace all four tyres with either all season tyres or summer tyres in complete sets.
RUNFLAT TYRE INSTALLATION
Runflat tyres will not be installed with Non Runflat tyres. Runflat tyres will only be installed in pairs with existing Run flat tyres, and in singles with a matching Runflat tyre on an axle, and completing a set of 4 Runflat tyres.
SPEED RATING
Tyres will only be installed if the speed rating is the same or higher than the speed rating that the vehicle manufacturer equipped the vehicle with from the factory.
LOAD CARRYING CAPACITY
Tyres will only be installed in axle pairs if the load carrying capacity is the same or higher than the load carrying capacity that the vehicle manufacturer equipped the vehicle with from the factory.
INSTALLATION OF LESS THAN A FULL SET OF TYRES
When a member does not replace tyres in full sets, Costco's tyre fitting policy is to position the new tyres on the rear of a vehicle. This policy is consistent with the direction given from all the major tyre manufacturers and tyre industry associations. Safe vehicle operation is the driving force behind this policy. A few vehicle manufacturers have wording in their owner's manual stating that new tyres should be fitted to the front of a vehicle. Mechanical issues are the driving force through this direction. This direction conflicts with the Industry & Costco’s safety policy of when only 2 tyres are replaced, that the new tyres must be fitted to the rear of the vehicle. The conflict here is safety versus mechanical. When replacing 2 new tyres only on the front of a vehicle, this makes the vehicle unstable and susceptible to sudden lack of stability and over steer. This creates a safety hazard not only for the passengers and driver in the vehicle but it also creates a safety hazard for others who may be harmed by an overturned or fish-tailing vehicle. A members request to sign a waiver of liability for the installation of replacement tyres only on the front axle will be denied by Costco.
FOUR WHEEL DRIVE AND ALL WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLES
It is always recommended to replace tyres on Four Wheel Drive and All Wheel Drive vehicles in complete sets. When purchasing less than four tyres, the tyre size, tyre profile, load index and speed rating must be the same on all 4 wheels and the overall tread depth between the old tyres and the new tyres must not be greater than 4mm. If less than a complete set of tyres is purchased, the new tyres will be installed on the rear of the vehicle. The final decision to install a tyre on a vehicle will be made by the Costco tyre centre manager or supervisor. The tyre must meet all vehicle manufacturers’ safety standards and specifications. Costco cannot take responsibility for mechanical issues that could occur from installing less than 4 tyres.
