With a legacy spanning more than 500 years, The Sovereign has been associated with many British monarchs. For 2025, the reverse of the coin features Benedetto Pistrucci’s iconic St George and the dragon design, which first appeared on The Sovereign in the nineteenth century. The obverse of the 2025 Bullion Sovereign features the official coinage portrait of His Majesty King Charles III, designed by Martin Jennings.

The 2025 Sovereign Bullion coin will be the final time that The Royal Mint will mint bullion Sovereigns in its current “red” colour, sometimes referred to as rose gold. The launch of the 2026 Sovereign Bullion Coin range will see The Sovereign return to its traditional “Yellow Gold” colour.
