Located in the Pomerol Appellation, Chateau L'Evangile vineyards are spread across a surface area of 22ha. With high quality soil, the terroir consists of heavy green clay covered but a bed of gravel perfect for Merlot. This wine is a blend of 88% Merlot and 12% Cabernet Franc. After maceration, this wine was transferred in new oak barrels for the malolactic fermentation, followed by 18 months of ageing. The barrels are made by the Tonnellerie des Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) in Pauillac.
Tasting Note:
“The 2020 L'Evangile was picked quite early, as the estate's rather young vines were suffering in the dry conditions, and the decision appears to have been judicious, as the wine has turned out very well. Wafting from the glass with aromas of dark berries, plums, vine smoke and violets, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and layered, with velvety tannins and an elegant, harmonious profile that avoids any excess.” Score 95, William Kelley for Robert Parker, RobertParker.com, April 2023
